Pommersfelden (dpa / lby) – After a collision with an oncoming truck on a state road near Pommersfelden (Bamberg district), a 29-year-old driver died. As reported by the Bamberg-Land Police Inspectorate, the man apparently got into the opposite lane on Thursday afternoon when he was driving in the direction of Steppach, for reasons that were not yet clear. There, the 29-year-old’s car was hit head-on by a truck and dragged along for several meters. According to the information, both cars immediately caught fire. The Bamberger died at the scene of the accident, the 35-year-old truck driver was seriously injured and also suffered from smoke inhalation when he tried to help the trapped 29-year-old – he was taken to a hospital.

The state road in the affected area is completely closed while the accident is being recorded. By order of the public prosecutor’s office in Bamberg, an expert is supporting the officers of the Bamberg-Land police station in determining how the accident happened.
