Flintsbach am Inn (dpa / lby) – After 19 years on the run, a suspected drug dealer has been arrested in Sardinia. The reason for the arrest was a case from 2003 near Flintsbach am Inn (Rosenheim district), as the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office (BLKA) announced on Tuesday. Two men were checked by the police on the A93 in November. The officers found around 20 kilograms of cocaine in the car. For this, both men were sentenced to six and a half years in prison in December 2004.
However, the police were looking for a third person because there were other fingerprints on the drug packaging. Thanks to improved methods and comparison with a collection in the Netherlands, the fingerprints could now be assigned to a person. The arrest warrant was issued against a 53-year-old. The target investigators found that he had moved between several countries in the past 19 years.
According to the BLKA, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and countries in South America were among the participants. The 53-year-old was arrested on July 17, 2022 on the Italian island. The Italian authorities are currently deciding whether the man should be extradited to Germany.
