A 59-year-old man is suspected of having killed a relative in Upper Franconia. The 56-year-old was found dead in a house in Gößweinstein (Forchheim district). The suspect is in custody.

Gößweinstein (dpa / lby) – After the discovery of a woman’s body in Upper Franconia, the Bamberg police arrested a close relative of the woman. The 59-year-old is suspected of having deliberately killed the 56-year-old woman, police headquarters in Upper Franconia and the public prosecutor’s office in Bamberg announced on Tuesday afternoon. An investigating judge had issued an arrest warrant for the man. The alleged perpetrator is now in custody.

According to a police spokesman, the 56-year-old woman was found dead in a residential building in Gößweinstein (Forchheim district) on Monday night. Because the traces where the body was found indicated that the woman had been the victim of a crime, the criminal police and public prosecutor’s office in Bamberg took over the investigation. Suspicion quickly fell on the 59-year-old relative of the dead.

The police and public prosecutor’s office initially gave no information on the motive, the course of events and the exact relationship between the woman and the man. The investigation would probably take several weeks, it said.
