Forchheim (dpa / lby) – Unknowns blew up an ATM in a bank branch in Forchheim. The perpetrators – the police assume at least two people – then probably fled in a dark car in the direction of Autobahn 73. According to the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office (BLKA), the explosion occurred on Friday night. Officials are now looking for witnesses. No information was given on the loot and damage to property.
According to a spokesman for the BLKA, it was the fourth ATM that was blown up in October in Bavaria. There is also an attempt. Since the beginning of the year, the cases have totaled 27. This is an “extreme accumulation”, and there have only been 17 cases over the past year.
The police assume that nationwide behind about two thirds of all blown up ATMs are several larger groups operating from the Netherlands. Therefore, there are also significantly more cases in the federal states that are closer to the Netherlands than in Bavaria. In principle, however, the perpetrators are active throughout Germany.
Unfortunately, it was difficult to catch the perpetrators because they were highly professional and incredibly ruthless, the spokesman said. Most of the time, the ATMs are near a freeway, which allows for a quick escape, sometimes at very high speeds.
