Munich (dpa / lby) – Inge Aures (SPD), Vice-Chair of the parliamentary subcommittee on the construction of the second trunk line in Munich, does not feel sufficiently informed about the large-scale project worth billions. There is no overall project plan, neither an overall cost overview nor the timeline are documented, Aures complained at a meeting in Munich on Tuesday. You only get fragments. That is “working like in the Middle Ages”.

Due to massive cost increases and time delays, a committee of inquiry was also set up. He wants to clarify how this development came about, whether there were omissions and whether the public – possibly for tactical reasons – was informed too late. On the other hand, the task of the subcommittee on the future main route is to accompany the project and to regularly exchange information with Deutsche Bahn and the state government. At the beginning of March, the members want to visit the main line construction site.

In 2022 it became known that the planned costs for the project, which consisted of many individual projects, had increased massively. Instead of 3.8 billion, it should now be 7.049 billion euros. The completion date has moved from 2028 to 2035, possibly even to 2037. The heart of the project is the construction of a second tunnel tube for the Munich S-Bahn across the city center.
