Munich (dpa / lby) – The tills of the Bavarian retail trade also rang on the 3rd Saturday in Advent. Business was not quite as good as a week earlier, said the spokesman for the Bavarian Trade Association, Bernd Ohlmann, on Saturday of the German Press Agency. However, the retailers are right on target to achieve the forecast of 14.5 billion euros in sales in the Christmas business.
This means that retailers will be significantly higher than in the previous year, when corona restrictions were still clouding the pre-Christmas shopping experience. However, sales would still be below the pre-Corona Advent 2019. “It seems that not everyone is saving on gifts,” said Ohlmann, referring to the current economic crisis as a result of high prices, especially for energy.
“The snow and the cold weather are good,” said Ohlmann. This sparked a desire for Christmas shopping in many people. He considers it positive for retailers that after the 4th Advent another full week will pass before Christmas Eve. “The Christ Child does another lap of honor,” said Ohlmann. Those who make last-minute decisions would have more time for their purchases, and the pre-Christmas run on shops will also ease up a bit.
So far, no real hits have emerged when it comes to choosing Christmas presents. Consumer electronics and toys did well as always. The recent cold temperatures and the snowfalls have brought customers in particular to the textile retail trade and sports shops – warm clothing and sports equipment such as skis are in demand. The trend towards vouchers is also unclouded, said Ohlmann.
