Schwandorf (dpa / lby) – A driver left the road near Schwandorf while fleeing the police and was seriously injured. According to a police statement on Wednesday, there were two arrest warrants against the man, and he was also traveling without a driver’s license. The police suspect this to be the reason for his escape late Tuesday evening. When officials wanted to check the man in the Schwandorfer Marktplatz area, the 26-year-old ignored the policeman’s stop signal. He accelerated to 140 kilometers per hour in town and fled in the direction of the B85.
According to the police, however, he lost control of his car in a tight left turn due to the high speed and came off the road to the right. His car drove ten meters up the steep embankment and came to a stop in the bushes. The 26-year-old got out of the car himself and was arrested by the officers. Because of his serious injuries, he was taken to a hospital. According to the police, other people were not endangered. According to a spokeswoman, the arrest warrants against the man existed for a violent crime and for fraudulently obtaining benefits.
