Nuremberg/Vienna (dpa/lby) – A drug discovery when checking a package in Nuremberg has led to apartment searches and arrests in Austria. Four men were taken into custody. Narcotics with a sales value estimated at around two million euros were seized, as the Munich Customs Investigation Office announced on Wednesday.
The investigation began after 1.8 kilograms of marijuana were found in a package in a Nuremberg distribution center in November last year. According to the information, the delivery was addressed to a recipient in Vienna and came from Spain. In cooperation with the Austrian investigative authorities, the package was prepared for delivery in Vienna. When it was delivered on November 17, the alleged recipient, a 43-year-old man residing in Vienna, was arrested.
During a search of the apartment, investigators found another 1.7 kilograms of cannabis, 1.6 kilograms of substances containing THC and small amounts of other narcotics. Further investigations by the Austrian authorities then led to house searches throughout Austria, but above all in Vienna. A further 200 kilograms of cannabis in various forms as well as 10,000 pieces of cannabis-infused confectionery and utensils for the production of such products were seized.
The 43-year-old and three suspected accomplices were arrested and are in custody in Austria.
