Zirndorf (dpa / lby) – A 54-year-old is said to have seriously injured two senior citizens in a residential building in Zirndorf (Fürth district). The 73-year-old and her 72-year-old husband were taken to hospitals, a police spokeswoman said on Monday.

Previously, the suspect is said to have used force to gain access to the apartment building and suddenly attacked the two seniors. They suffered stab wounds. The man then fled.

Witnesses called the police when they saw the man holding a knife. The senior had also stepped in front of the house covered in blood, as the spokeswoman said. Police arrested the suspect at a nearby railway line after the incident on Monday morning. Since the 54-year-old was also injured, he was taken to a hospital. According to initial police investigations, the suspect and the couple are said to have known each other. The public prosecutor’s office requested an arrest warrant for attempted manslaughter.
