Bavaria: Escape after fatal accident with cyclist: driver in custody

Bad Grönenbach (dpa / lby) – After the death of a cyclist as a result of an accident in the Allgäu, a truck driver is in custody. Among other things, he is suspected of murder by failure to help, the police said on Monday. The 60-year-old is said to have driven away after the accident in Bad Grönenbach (Unterallgäu district) on Thursday without helping the seriously injured cyclist. Plastic parts at the scene of the accident had led the investigators to the man. Police arrested him on Friday.

An autopsy has meanwhile revealed that the 65-year-old cyclist “clearly” died as a result of the accident, the police said. She was reportedly thrown into a field after the truck hit her. The woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the accident.

The investigation into the case continued on Monday, according to the information. An expert should examine the exact course of the accident, the police evaluated traces of the accident site and interviewed witnesses.
