Saxony-Anhalt: the number of Ukrainian students in Saxony-Anhalt has increased

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – Two weeks after the start of the new school year, the number of Ukrainian schoolchildren in Saxony-Anhalt has increased again. 5,301 boys and girls from Ukraine are currently being taught at general and vocational schools – that is around 2.5 percent of all students in the country, as the Ministry of Education announced to the German Press Agency on Monday.

On the first day of school, August 25, around 4,700 Ukrainian students attended general schools and almost 230 students attended vocational schools.

As of last Thursday, a total of 27,751 war refugees from the Ukraine have been taken in directly in the administrative districts and urban districts in Saxony-Anhalt. According to the Interior Ministry, at least 6,880 are school-age children.

As the Ministry of Education further announced, there are now arrival classes at 102 school locations. There are currently 171 Ukrainian teachers working in Saxony-Anhalt. In addition, there are 54 teachers for German as a target language who are supposed to teach the children and young people the German language.
