Regensburg (dpa / lby) – A 24-year-old former geriatric nurse has to face a process because he is said to have pressed a pillow on the face of a resident in Cham in the Upper Palatinate until it turned red. The public prosecutor accused the man of dangerous bodily harm and mistreatment of wards on Tuesday before the Regensburg Regional Court. The victim reportedly suffered no permanent damage. The defendant is being held in a district hospital. The verdict could come in December.
Originally, the public prosecutor had determined on suspicion of attempted manslaughter. Now the prosecution assumes in favor of the man that he voluntarily resigned from any attempted killing. He ended the attack on the senior when a colleague spoke to him and without her having to physically intervene. The nursing home released the man.
In the course of the investigation, the investigators checked about 15 deaths in the retirement home in Cham. In February and April they had the bodies of three residents exhumed and forensically examined. The suspicion against the man had not been substantiated, the prosecutor said.
