Bamberg (dpa / lby) – A misunderstanding triggered a police operation in Upper Franconia: The employee of a hotel in Bamberg mistakenly thought a service provider was a knife thief and called the police. The man should have stolen several knives from the kitchen. Loud screaming could be heard in the background during the phone call, the police said on Sunday. Because the Sandkirchweih was taking place near the hotel with many visitors, several patrol cars made their way. Officers caught the suspect. The case turned out to be a misunderstanding.
The 45-year-old man had picked up knives from a hotel employee the day before to sharpen them. When he brought the knives back on Saturday, another employee did not know, did not understand the man properly due to language difficulties and only saw him with knives in his hand. The woman did not see that he had left the hotel without a knife, it said. So she assumed it was theft.
