Fürth (dpa / lby) – According to a report read during the process, technical defects in the semitrailer are not the cause of the serious accident on a residential street in Fürth. It was therefore possible to brake the truck without any problems, the judge read from the report on Monday before the district court. A 51-year-old truck driver is charged in the process. He is said to have run a red light and rammed a car in February while he was very drunk. He is said to have thundered down a residential street at up to 70 kilometers per hour, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake. Several people were injured, around 30 cars and houses were damaged (AZ 421 Ls 702 Js 101647/22).
On the second day of the hearing, victims of the devastating drunken driving testified again in court. One woman reported that she still suffers psychologically from the traumatic events. The apartment building owned by her and her husband caught fire that evening. The couple and their neighbors had to climb a ladder over a wall in the backyard to save themselves. To this day, she cannot remember parts of the events, the woman said. Since then she has had trouble sleeping, has lost several kilos and is taking antidepressants.
