Günzburg (dpa / lby) – There was a fire in a chemical factory in Günzburg on Sunday. A column of black smoke rose as the contents of the basin – sewage mixed with fatty acids – caught fire. However, the flames were quickly extinguished, said a police spokesman in the evening. Contrary to initial fears, toxic fumes were not released, and the police had initially warned the population as a precaution. The warning was necessary, but “turned out to be much smoke about nothing”.
There was no danger to the population. Nobody got hurt. The damage amounts to around 30,000 euros. The cause of the fire was initially unknown. More than 60 firefighters were on duty.
