Lindau/Munich (dpa/lby) – Federal police officers picked up 16 people who wanted to enter Germany illegally. As the federal police announced on Tuesday, during a check on Boxing Day, the officers found 14 Syrians and two people from Bangladesh who wanted to come to Germany in a bus without the necessary documents. Eleven migrants from Syria are said to have paid one of the two bus drivers to take them to Germany.
The bus was on its way from Turin to Nuremberg when federal police officers checked the vehicle at the Hörbranz border crossing. All 16 migrants received reports of attempted illegal entry. The federal police officers later turned them back to Austria. The 42-year-old driver now has to answer for attempted smuggling of foreigners. The man was released after police investigations were completed. His 28-year-old colleague is initially listed as a witness in these proceedings.
