Munich (dpa/lby) – In Bavaria, several million working days have already been canceled in the current year due to Corona. This is the result of figures published by AOK Bayern on Wednesday. From January to August, there were more than 393,300 corona cases among employed insured persons with 3,175 lost days in health insurance alone.

The AOK Bayern has almost 4.6 million insured persons, that is about every third person in Bavaria. In the case of employees subject to social security contributions, the proportion is somewhat higher at 37.5 percent. In order to obtain the sick days for all employees in Bavaria, these figures cannot simply be extrapolated, since the members of the health insurance company are not a representative cross-section. However, they still give a rough impression of the dimensions of the loss of work.

Days on which employees had to look after sick children or cases of long or post Covid are not included in the AOK figures. According to the health insurance company, 0.86 percent of working AOK members in Bavaria have reported sick with long or post Covid since the beginning of the pandemic. The failures were often much longer: an average of 45.3 days.

In the period from January to August, there was a significantly higher level of sick leave than usual among AOK policyholders. On average, it was 5.9 percent of employees. That is 1.4 percentage points or almost a third more than in the same period of 2021.
