Fürth (dpa / lby) – More men and women began studying at Bavarian universities in 2022 than in the previous year. As reported by the State Statistical Office in Fürth on Thursday, 74,795 people enrolled for the first time in the 2022 summer semester and the following winter semester – around 2.5 percent more than in the previous year.
According to the authorities, about a third of first-semester students do not have German citizenship. The number of foreign first-year students rose by 1.2 percent. The war refugees from Ukraine contribute to this. A total of 921 Ukrainians began studying in Bavaria, 61 percent more than in the previous year.
However, the total number of students has declined slightly. In the current winter semester, 403,437 students were enrolled, 0.2 percent fewer than in the previous winter semester 2021/22.
