Ampfing (dpa / lby) – The police in Upper Bavaria stopped a “completely desolate” cattle transport from Austria. The roof of the truck was extended so that some of the 30 cattle on board got the cold wind on Autobahn 94, the police said on Thursday. In addition, the hygiene rules for animal transport were “clearly disregarded”. The truck should have taken the cattle to a country outside the EU, but that was not allowed in this case, a police spokesman said.

The officials therefore stopped the truck on Wednesday near Ampfing (Mühldorf am Inn district) and escorted the animal transport to a hall in Waldkraiburg, where the cattle could be cared for and sheltered. The driver reportedly had to pay a fine of several hundred euros.

The Croatian forwarding agency for which he drove must therefore also be prepared for a fine. In addition, the company could have to pay the money it took because it apparently did not comply with the regulations like other competitors. The police initiated a corresponding procedure for skimming off profits.
