Hof (dpa / lby) – Romanian President Klaus Iohannis has spoken out in favor of a strong European Union. “We are experiencing decisive times for the fate of the EU,” he said on Saturday in Hof, where the Sudeten German Landsmannschaft had awarded him their European Charlemagne Prize. Only a strong EU can contribute to solving the current problems. A decade and a half after accession, Romania is fully committed to the EU as a political, social and economic project.
Referring to the EU’s response to Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine, he said: “The EU is united and stands by its founding principles.”
