Ingolstadt (dpa / lby) – Instead of getting away with cash and gold bars, a 19-year-old con artist was arrested by the police. A 70-year-old from Ingolstadt helped, who saw through the telephone fraud, as the police announced on Tuesday. The caller, posing as a police officer, lied to the senior on Monday that his son was going to jail for a fatal accident. A bail should avoid that.
The 70-year-old recognized the scam and had his wife dial the emergency number, it was said. The senior claimed he was giving him a bag of cash and bullion. A little later, the 19-year-old took the bag and was arrested in his car by plainclothes police. Inside the bag were empty envelopes and household items like garbage bags and boxes. The 19-year-old was taken into custody. Whether there are other accomplices is still being checked.
The police warn of the scam in which seniors often lose large amounts of money. The scam in which family members are imprisoned as a result of a fatal accident is currently very common. Just a week ago, scammers used the scam to bring two senior citizens 200,000 euros.
