Fürth (dpa / lby) – demolished houses, burning cars and injuries – a truck driver will have to answer to the court for a devastating alcohol drive through a residential street in Fürth from next week. The main hearing before the jury is scheduled for August 10th and 17th, the District Court of Fürth announced on Tuesday when asked.

The public prosecutor accuses the 51-year-old of endangering road traffic, unauthorized removal from the scene of the accident, negligent arson and negligent bodily harm in several cases. The accused has been in custody since February. According to the public prosecutor’s office, he had essentially admitted the allegations.

According to the investigation, the truck driver drove through a red traffic light in the city near Nuremberg on February 8, rammed a car and then thundered down a residential street at high speed. There he pushed several cars into each other. Some cars caught fire. Houses were also demolished and damaged by the fire. Several people were injured. According to the public prosecutor’s office, a man could only save himself from the truck by jumping on the hood of a car. A house was temporarily uninhabitable.

According to the investigators, an alcohol test later showed that the driver had a blood alcohol level of around two per mille. The public prosecutor estimated the damage at 200,000 euros to a total of 31 vehicles and 500,000 euros to the buildings.
