Friedberg (dpa / lby) – Again there were serious bathing accidents in Bavaria. Two people had an accident at the quarry lake near Friedberg in Swabia on Sunday. According to the police on Monday, an 80-year-old died and an 18-year-old was seriously injured and is now in a coma.
The husband of the 80-year-old had observed on Sunday morning how his partner went down in Friedberger See. The husband rescued his wife from the water with other bathers. The elderly woman died a short time later in hospital.
A few hours later in the afternoon, a physically and mentally handicapped young man went under in the lake. A 12-year-old noticed this and called her father for help, who pulled the 18-year-old to shore. The adolescent, who was bathing with his mother, came to the Augsburg University Hospital, but is in a coma after the bathing accident.
In the past few days, there have been several fatal swimming accidents in Bavaria. A 55-year-old has also been missing from Kelheim in Lower Bavaria since Saturday. The man went into the Danube near Weltenburg Monastery and sank before the eyes of his wife. A police spokesman said on Monday that the search for the man would continue.
