Haar (dpa / lby) – A 27-year-old van driver was seriously injured in a rear-end collision on the A99 in the Munich district. Late Thursday afternoon near Haar in the direction of Salzburg, he drove onto a semi-trailer truck that had braked due to a traffic jam, the police said. The van apparently recognized this too late and, despite emergency braking, was no longer able to prevent the accident. He was freed from the driver’s cab by the fire brigade and then taken to a Munich hospital. The 60-year-old driver of the semitrailer was unharmed.
A mile-long traffic jam formed because traffic was being diverted to just one lane at the scene of the accident.
