Munich (dpa / lby) – At the end of the winter holidays, it was wintry again in the Free State. A meteorologist from the German Weather Service (DWD) said it snowed on Saturday morning, especially in the Alps.
In Irschenberg (Miesbach district), about 17 centimeters of fresh snow fell, in Siegsdorf (Traunstein district) it was 26 centimeters. There should be light snowfall in the Alps without long interruptions until Monday. Then there could be between ten and 20, in places 30 centimeters of fresh snow, said the meteorologist. However, the intensity of the snowfall will decrease over the course of Sunday. In the low mountain ranges, the amount of snow is comparatively small. Around five centimeters of fresh snow fell in Bischofsgrün (Bayreuth district) in the Fichtelgebirge by Saturday noon.
At lower altitudes, the snow hardly finds its way: above 400 to 600 meters there could only be snow showers until Saturday evening. In areas over 600 meters, it can therefore already be slippery during the day. In the night to Sunday and on Sunday morning, forest and ice can also be expected at lower altitudes.
