Munich (dpa / lby) – The former national soccer player Holger Badstuber ends his active career. The 33-year-old announced this on Monday morning on his Twitter channel. Badstuber, who was trained at FC Bayern Munich, most recently played at FC Luzern in Switzerland. He has been without a club since mid-December 2021.
Badstuber played 31 games for the German national team, but was repeatedly thrown back by serious injuries. He won the Champions League once with FC Bayern and the German championship six times. He also won the DFB Cup four times with Munich, the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Supercup once each, and the German Supercup three times. Other stations in the Bundesliga were VfB Stuttgart and FC Schalke 04.
“Of course I would have wished for a few fewer serious injuries. But I’m very happy about what we’ve achieved. I’m grateful for everything,” wrote Badstuber, who is aiming to train as a coach. “I will stay true to football, my passion. I will follow in my father’s footsteps.”
