Munich (dpa / lby) – In the ongoing dispute over the block handling of trucks in Austria, Bavaria, Tyrol and South Tyrol are now relying on “problem solvers” from the economy. Representatives of the chambers of commerce and economy from Munich and Upper Bavaria, Tyrol and Bolzano should accompany and observe the controversial measure on the busy Brenner route in the future, as the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs announced on Thursday.
Because only a certain number of trucks are allowed to drive through Tyrol on the route on specified days, traffic jams in Bavaria often stretch for kilometers.
The new shop stewards should monitor the driving bans and document the consequences, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs. They then hand over these documents to politicians and the authorities. Due to public holidays and vacation time, there are numerous block handlings until June 19th. On the A93 and the A8, traffic sometimes backs up into the Munich area.
In order to relieve the Inntalautobahn, a maximum of 300 trucks per hour were allowed to drive from Bavaria to Austria. Tirol has also announced such a “dose day” for Friday.
The three practitioners were deployed for the first time on Wednesday at the Kufstein, Innsbruck and Brenner hubs. Economics Minister Hubert Aiwanger said they wanted to “defuse the deadlock” with the shop stewards. The federal government must also make freight transport by rail cheaper. The traffic jams are “an impertinence for everyone involved.”
Tyrol’s Economic Provincial Councilor Anton Mattle defended the block handling, only in this way could the “traffic collapse” in Austria be prevented.
