Nuremberg (dpa / lby) – The Nuremberg coach Markus Weinzierl wishes for the second half of the 2nd Bundesliga “90 minutes of full-throttle football” from his team. “We have guys who are willing and able to do it,” said Weinzierl in a podcast by 1. FC Nürnberg. The aim for the new year is to offer “over 90 minutes of full-on football” and to defend oneself “in bad phases through intensity”. The traditional Franconian club, which will start preparing again on January 2nd, is eleventh in the table and only two points ahead of 17th place.
The three winter newcomers Peter Vindahl Jensen (goal), Florian Flick (defensive midfield) and Benjamin Goller (winger) give him confidence. “I’m very happy about all three newcomers,” assured Weinzierl. After the serious injuries to goalkeeper Christian Mathenia (shoulder) and Tim Handwerker and Erik Wekesser (both cruciate ligament), the “club” had to react on the transfer market.
Weinzierl has promotion with 1. FC Nürnberg in the back of his mind. That is “certainly a huge goal,” said the 47-year-old, who took over from Robert Klauss at the beginning of October.
