The basketball players of FC Bayern Munich and Telekom Baskets Bonn qualify for the playoff semi-finals of the basketball Bundesliga. Both Munich and Bonn prevailed in the third game of their series and entered the second round with 3-0 wins.
Telekom Baskets Bonn and title co-favourite Bayern Munich complete the play-off semifinals of the basketball Bundesliga. The Munich team won their third quarterfinal game at Niners Chemnitz after extra time 87:80 (74:74, 41:31) and thus managed the sweep in the best-of-five series. The Baskets had previously managed the same feat, beating the Hamburg Towers 95-88 (48-54) thanks to a late comeback.
Already on Thursday, the German champions Alba Berlin (against Brose Bamberg) and the MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg (against ratiopharm Ulm) had each reached the round of the top four without a play-off defeat. Both teams meet in the semifinals. This is the first time since the introduction of the three-win rule in the 1998/99 season that all four quarter-final series have ended with a sweep.
In Chemnitz, Munich initially left little doubt about victory. A 32:16 run by the outsider in the third quarter created tension again and laid the foundation for overtime. Nihad Djedovic became the match winner with two threes in the extra time. There Bayern found their old strength back. Nick Weiler-Babb was the best scorer in Munich with 19 points.
Bonn had previously made everything clear thanks to a strong final phase in Hamburg. Parker Jackson-Cartwright was the outstanding man among the guests. The most valuable player of the season scored 11 of his 31 points in the last four minutes, propelling his team to victory with the decisive three-pointer. For the first time since 2009, Bonn is in the playoff semifinals.
