After the death of a 75-year-old woman who was the victim of a robbery in Berlin, a 15-year-old has been arrested. The alleged perpetrator was arrested on Wednesday after another robbery of a 79-year-old, police and prosecutors said.
An investigating judge issued an arrest warrant for the risk of absconding. The youth is being investigated for robbery resulting in death. It was said on Thursday that the police had already noticed him several times through similar acts.
After the robbery in Berlin-Gesundbrunnen last Tuesday, the 75-year-old was taken to the hospital with injuries to her face and a broken thigh. She died there shortly afterwards. The 15-year-old is said to have hit the woman in the face during the robbery and then tugged at her shopping bag until the handle broke off and the woman fell to the ground.
On Wednesday afternoon, the 79-year-old in Berlin-Reinickendorf had a similar experience: According to the investigators, she was suddenly thrown to the ground from behind. When the elderly woman was lying on the ground, the accused is said to have hit her in the face several times with his fist and snatched her handbag. However, the woman got away with minor injuries, it was said.
After the robbery, police officers searched the area for the 15-year-old and finally found him with the help of a 40-year-old passer-by in a residential area, it was said. Some of the loot had already been found near the crime scene and returned to the victim.
