After a long time running the bulk, finally Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has said high and clear: he does not plan to vaccinate against the Covid-19.
So far, the leader of the extreme right said he would be the last Brazilian in vaccining, that he wanted to wait because it would not be fair ‘stealing’ someone else’s most needy.
However, this Wednesday, in an interview with the Jovem Pan radio, said the following: “About the vaccines, I decided that I’m not going to vaccinate. I’m seeing new studies. My immunity is up there, why are I going to vaccinate?
It would be the same as playing ten actual to the lottery and earn two. It does not make sense, “he said.
Bolsonaro assured that he is not against vaccines and justified him by saying that last year he authorized to devote 20,000 million reais (more than 3,100 million euros) to the purchase of immunizers, and that now most Brazilians received at least
a dose.
However, he added that there is an “craving” in buying vaccines and insinuated that behind the requirement of the ‘Covid passport’ that other authorities are implemented there are interests of the laboratories.
“Now, demand vaccine, it seems to me that it smells like a market. For me freedom is above all. If the citizen does not want to be vaccinated, it is in his right and final point,” Zanjó.
Throughout the pandemic, Bolsonaro questioned the effectiveness and safety of vaccines repeatedly.
He mocked the Sinovac vaccine (“I do not want complaints if people become Cayman,” he came to say) and ignored the requests of Pfizer for months, who was offering tens of millions of vaccines to Brazil.
If they had arrived before, the vaccines would have avoided many of the more than 600,000 deaths that the pandemic already left in the country.
Dejadez at the time of leaving for vaccines is one of the central points of research carried out in recent months by a Special Commission of the Senate on the possible offenses committed by the Government in the management of the pandemic.
The final report will be published next week, and Bolsonaro is expected to be accused of various crimes against public health.
The president of Brazil is one of the few world leaders who have not been vaccinated against the Covid-19.
Most made it publicly, to encourage the population.
In spite of everything, Bolsonaro’s denialism did not sleep among the Brazilians, who massively embraced the vaccination campaign.
Unlike other countries, in Brazil the anti-vaccine movement is practically non-existent.
According to the most recent data of the Ministry of Health, 72% of the population received at least one dose of the vaccine and 47% is totally immunized.
Index raises rather depending on the region.
In the state of Sao Paulo, for example, (with a population similar to that of Spain) 81% of the population is already fully protected.
