Bordeaux’s pride march was stopped this Sunday, after metal barriers fell from a tank on participants.
According to Gironde’s prefecture, the preliminary toll was “two seriously injured people were taken to hospital, three minor injuries and four people are being evaluated”. According to the same source, “The metal structure of one the tanks fell on people because it was caught in trees.”
An AFP journalist noted that this structure was located at the tank’s top, on a platform attached to a truck. Sud-Ouest interviewed a witness who said that the structure was already damaged by a branch from a tree, which had caused it to collapse after a passage one hour earlier.
According to the prefecture the procession had 4,800 participants. A security perimeter was established on Cours Victor-Hugo, where the accident took place at the end. Paramedics and firefighters responded to the call.
