Thousands of Brazilians flooded on Saturday the native city of the deceased star of popular music Marília Mendonça to surrender an emotional tribute, a day after he died in an air accident at 26 years.
Mendonça, superstar of the Brazilian “Sertanejo” and winner of the Latin Grammy, died on Friday with four other people when a plane that took it to a concert crashed into a rural area of the state of Minas Gerais, in the southeast of the country.
His body was transferred by plane on Saturday to Goiania, his hometown, capital of the central state of Goiás.
Large crowds of fans went in mass to a stadium where a massive public wake will be held.
Fans began to row at dawn outside the stadium, with capacity for 15,000 people, where great floral arrangements arrived in a constant flow, said AFP correspondents.
“We came to say goodbye to our great Marília Mendonça and thank you for spending these years of your life singing for us and flying our heart,” the student Davi Dyeimes Linares went to the news site, who went through 130 kilometers to be among the first of
the row.
The attendance of about 100,000 people was expected, according to Governor of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado.
The star and an uncle who worked with her, who also died in the accident, had to be buried later in a small private ceremony for close friends and family in a local cemetery.
The producer of Mendonça and the two pilots are also among the deceased after the bimotor plane crashed near a picturesque waterfall on the outskirts of the city of Caramerga, where the artist was scheduled to act.
Mendonça was known for breaking into a musical scene of Brazilian country dominated for a long time by men and marked by machismo.
She was an outstanding figure in a flourishing subway known as “Feminejo” or “Sertanejo de Women”.
Nicknamed the “queen of suffering”, she was known by the ballads of love and lack of her, but also about the empowerment of women.
It had some 22 million subscribers on YouTube, 39 million people were followed by Instagram and more than eight million in Spotify.
The death of it generated tributes of figures ranging from the legend of the Brazilian music Caetano Veloso until the superstar of football Neymar and President Jair Bolsonaro, who said that the country was “in shock”.
“She was one of the greatest artists of the generation of him,” the president wrote on Twitter.
