US pop star Britney Spears is making a comeback after years of musical hiatus with a duet with British pop legend Elton John. The music label Interscope Records announced the upcoming release of a single called “Hold Me Closer”, without giving further details. John posted a picture on Instagram and Twitter with the song title on a pink background with rose and rocket emojis.
For days there had been rumors about a collaboration between the 40-year-old Spears, whose last studio album “Glory” was released in 2016, and the 35-year-old John. The title of the song “Hold Me Closer” comes from the lyrics of the 1970s hit “Tiny Dancer” which John co-wrote with Bernie Taupin.
Those with hits like “Oops! … I Did It Again” and “Baby One More Time” Spears has made headlines in recent years, especially with her private life. At the end of last year, after a long legal dispute, the 13-year guardianship that her father had taken over in 2008 because of the singer’s psychological problems was ended. Spears then announced a miscarriage last May. The mother of two had wanted a child with her fiancé Sam Asghari.
The singer shows her fans almost exclusively on social networks. She has not given interviews in years, rarely appears in public and has not performed as a musician since 2018.
