A vibrant tribute to Elizabeth II, one year to the day after her death. King Charles III praised his mother on Friday September 8, saluting “her long life” and “her devoted services” and thanking the public for their support since his accession to the throne.
On September 8, 2022, Queen Elizabeth II died at the age of 96 in her Balmoral Castle, Scotland, after seventy years of reign. His passing was met with heartfelt tributes in the UK throughout the period of mourning. The first anniversary of his death will not, however, be marked by any major public event.
Charles III wrote a short message from Balmoral, where he spent part of the summer. “On the first anniversary of the death of the late Her Majesty and my accession (to the throne), we remember with great affection her long life, her dedicated service and all that she stood for for many of us,” the king wrote.
“I am also deeply grateful for the love and support that has been shown to my wife and I over the course of this year as we do everything we can to be of service to all of you,” he continued.
Charles’s youngest son, Harry, at odds with the royal family, also had a word for Elizabeth II, his grandmother, during a speech at a charity gala.
“She’s looking at all of us tonight, happy that we’re together and continuing to shine a light on such an incredible community,” he said at the event dedicated to sick children and their families taking place in London . The last stay in the British capital of the prince, who resides in California with his wife Meghan, dates back to June.
In a statement, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that “with one year of hindsight, the scale of the late Her Majesty’s service seems even greater.” “Our gratitude for a life of duty and dedication only continues to grow,” he added. “As we continue to mourn (Elizabeth II), we should be proud that her remarkable legacy continues to grow today under the reign of His Majesty the King,” said the head of the conservative government.
