Almost all bathing waters in the state of Hesse have a very good water quality. This is evident from the annual report of the European environment Agency EEA. In 58 of the 62 studied lakes water quality last year was excellent. This corresponds to approximately 93,5 percent of the investigated bathing sites in the state of Hesse.

Three lakes have been assessed by the EAA as well. Only a lake, the East Bank of the Werra valley lake, received a grade of adequate. The investigations by the environment Agency relate to the season of the previous year. Already in 2018, the water was all most of the lakes in the state of Hesse in excellent condition.

The EEA, collects data at regular intervals of 30 European countries, to the pollution of the waters. In Germany, 2258 bathing waters were investigated.
