In the Ukraine crisis, a part of the Republican Party of the United States supports Russia.
And that is the case of former president Donald Trump.
Already during the presidency of him, Trump made it clear that he professes a marked admiration for Vladimir Putin and, now, he has come back again.
Trump has defended the Russian invasion of Ukraine, although he has nuanced that, if he had not lost the elections and followed by president, it would not have occurred.
The former Secretary of State, former Director of the CIA, and possible candidate for the Presidency in 2024, Mike Pompeo, has done the same, when describing Putin of “great talent statesman”.
Trump, furthermore, has proposed that the United States do the same at its border, which seems to indicate that it thinks that the idea of invading Mexico seems interesting.
In fact, the former advisor of it in terms of defense, and nominated for the position of Ambassador in Germany – although it was not ratified by Senate Douglas MacGregor, “had already proposed fusilar without trial to illegal immigrants in the US.
This made it clear in a radio interview on Tuesday, just a few hours after Russia invaded Ukraine.
“I saw it yesterday on television, and I said: ‘This is a genius’. Putin states that a large portion of Ukraine is independent. It is wonderful. And I said:” It is necessary to be ready. “And he goes and is going to be converted
In the force of peace. It is the most powerful peace force. We could do that at our southern border, “he said, in reference to Mexico.
The former president continued the explanation of him by offering more details: “It is the most powerful peace force I have ever seen, I had never seen so many tanks.”
Trump also praised, as is usually usual in him, Putin.
“Here is a guy who is very skilled, I know him very well, very, very well”.
The former president insisted that “this [Reference to the Russian invasion of Ukraine] would never have happened with us,” in reference to its mandate as president.
“If I had been in office, this would have been inconceivable, it would never have happened.”
As is usually usual, the Republican Party, which until Trump arrived at the White House was the most ‘hard’ in foreign policy, has kept strict silence before the words of the former president.
Only the critical sector, symbolized by representatives Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, has criticized the former president.
In any case, Kinzinger leaves the camera this year, and Cheney faces a complicated primaries in front of a pro-Trump candidate, with which the weight of it is nothing more than symbolic.
Trump’s statements are not only consistent with his affinity with Putin but, beyond that, with his vision of international relations.
Former president-and likely candidate in 2024 – has always shown great admiration for hard leaders.
Or, what is the same, by dictators.
And the idea of the use of force has never been moderate.
During his campaign to the White House, in 2016, the then president surprised his advisors by raising by which the United States had not used atomic bombs since the Second World War.
In that same campaign, Trump said that the US should have invaded Iraq to stay with the oil of that country, which constitutes a violation of international law (many argue that the invasion itself was also).
In 2018, when he decided, after a telephone conversation with the Russian president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, withdraw US soldiers from Syria, agreed, at the request of its generals, to leave a contingent in the oil region of that country, presumably with the
idea -equivoked – that Syrian hydrocarbons were to the US.
Paradoxically, the generals and national security advisors deceived Trump, and took advantage of that excuse to leave the vast majority of US military in Syria.
But Trump is not the only one who defends Putin in the US.
Televisive commentators, such as Tucker Carlson and Maria Bartiromo, by Fox News, have also done it, as well as the Franklin Graham evangelical leader.
And there it is framed, too, Mike Pompeo.
In the last month, Pompeo has intervened in Fox News patching Putin repeatedly, whom he has described as “capable statesman”, “skillful” and “with talent”.
