A leading health problem for the youngest. As revealed by Le Parisien this Thursday, which relays the results of an Ifop poll for the association National Hearing Day (JNA), 14% of people under ten have already consulted for tinnitus in France, i.e. 1, 3 million children. Among the main reasons for this phenomenon is the use of earphones and headphones, since three out of ten children who suffer from ringing in the ears say they use them on a daily basis.
“Children’s ears are much more fragile than adult ears. Eventually, this can lead to presbycusis, aging hearing at age 40 instead of 60! is alarmed to our colleagues Jean-Luc Puel, president of JNA and director of research at Inserm. “These in-ear devices are placed too close to the eardrum,” adds Anaïs Roy, a noise hunter who regularly visits schools to educate children.
Health professionals also warn against loud noises that younger generations may experience, such as at the cinema or at a concert. “We need serene messages: avoid loud music and TV in order to limit sound trauma and, if in doubt, take your child to consult! explains JNA again.
“These results challenge us! Until then, we were always interested in adults. This is the first time that we have had a photograph of hearing health at that age”, also deciphered Jean-Luc Puel, who campaigns for screening in schools.
