With her new album “Midnights” US pop icon Taylor Swift clears one record after the other. Now she manages – for the first time in the history of the US charts – to occupy the first ten positions. In Germany, too, she made it to the top for the first time.
It is an extraordinary record: The singer Taylor Swift conquered the top ten places in the US charts at the same time. Led by the No. 1 song “Anti-Hero,” the top 10 tracks on the Billboard Hot 100 come from Swift’s new album, Midnights, according to industry publication Billboard. In the 64-year chart history, no artist had ever managed to do this.
The Canadian rapper Drake came very close last year: In September 2021, nine of his songs were in the top 10 of the US charts for a week.
“Midnights” went on sale on October 21 and temporarily paralyzed the Spotify streaming service due to the onslaught of users. It became the most streamed album in one day in the history of the platform. After a foray into folk, Swift has returned to pop with “Midnights.” It is the songwriter and eleven-time Grammy winner’s tenth album.
In Germany, too, Swift made it to number one in the German charts for the first time with “Midnights”. “She even has the best start by a solo artist in 2022,” said GfK Entertainment. With more than 20 million streams, “Midnights” is the most streamed album in Germany in the first week after release this year.
