This historic decision is for the European Union. This Wednesday’s plenary session of the European Parliament voted in favor to ban internal combustion engines in cars starting in 2035. All new vehicles sold in the EU must have “zero emission” emissions.

This text was part of the EU’s climate plan, which aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 55% in 2030. 339 MEPs supported it. 249 elected officials voted in opposition, while 24 abstained.

MEPs rejected an important text regarding the reform of Europe’s carbon market earlier in the day, Wednesday. This was rejected by Greens and left.
