For months, people have been worried about Charlene of Monaco. But in the meantime normality seems to be returning to the everyday life of the princess. Not only does she appear again for the Christmas tree ceremony in front of the palace for the first time in two years, she also gives a positive health update.
After a long period of retreat, Charlene von Monaco is now back in the public eye and is taking on more and more appointments. So far, however, the princess has hardly spoken publicly about her state of health. Otherwise, she keeps a low profile when it comes to private matters. Now, however, the 44-year-old speaks in an interview with the magazine “Monaco Matin” among other things about her health and the upbringing of her twins.
She feels “so much better today than in the years before,” says Charlene in the interview on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of her foundation “Fondation Princess Charlene”. She continues: “I feel a lot less pain and a lot more energy. I’m still recovering and regaining my balance.” Even if the process still takes time, she is “happy,” says the princess. “I’m taking the future step by step, one day at a time.”
In this phase, she mainly builds on the people around her. “My family and the people I love are my rock,” says Charlene. In addition to her husband Prince Albert II, this also includes her eight-year-old twins, Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques. Charlène says about them that they have their “own language” and a very “unique” connection to each other. “They love and protect each other and share an immense goodwill for each other. I see this peculiarity that twins share,” explains the princess.
Charlène also talks about the upbringing of the twins, who were born “with responsibilities and duties” as children of the reigning Monegasque prince. “They are still children, but they are beginning to understand their roles,” says the princess. “When we have to go to an event with my husband, we explain to them what the nature of that event or ceremony is. They are happy to accompany us and we are happy to fulfill this mission together. But as I said, they are still young, they observe and keep learning.”
Jacques and Gabriella were also there when their parents appeared together for the first time since 2020 for the traditional Christmas tree ceremony in front of the palace in Monaco. The royal family had chosen perfectly styled, matching outfits for the event: Charlène wore a dark blue cape, underneath a black turtleneck sweater and simple diamond earrings. Daughter Gabriella also came in a dark blue coat. Albert and son Jacques both wore black winter coats.
As in previous years, the princely family distributed sweets and gifts to the Monegasque population. Charlène handed a child a Playmobil set, spoke to visitors, listened attentively. The princess seemed relaxed, professional and friendly. Two years ago, she made headlines around the world at the same event by appearing with her hair half shaved. A little later she was ill for months and was unable to return to her family from her native South Africa for a long time.
