A man and a woman died this Friday in the parking lot of a McDonald’s in Marseille and three other people were injured when they were shot in what appears to be a new reckoning linked to drug trafficking.

Police sources cited by the newspaper La Provence and the BFM channel indicated that the shooter was a man who machine-gunned a car that was parked in the parking lot of a McDonald’s in the 16th arrondissement of this city in southeastern France.

The 23-year-old driver died instantly, while the woman died from her injuries. Three other passengers were hit by bullets. One of them, who was shot in the chest, was between life and death.

The shell casings found at the scene by the scientific police suggest that the weapon used was a kalasnikov.

Several of the victims had a history of drug trafficking, which suggests that what happened last night is a new settling of accounts between gangs for control of the market.

A phenomenon entrenched in Marseille, which has already caused more than forty deaths in the city since the beginning of the year.
