Xuntos Polo Irixo and PSOE have formalized this Friday the presentation of the first motion of censure of this mandate, less than two months after the inauguration of the councilors after the municipal elections of June 28, and with which, foreseeably , they will seize the baton of command from the current mayor, Manuel Cerdeira (PP).

Both formations had announced this week that they would present a motion of censure on the understanding that the residents “mainly support a change” in the Mayor’s Office, since Cerdeira, from the Popular Party, took office again as councilor on June 17, but in minority, with the support of four councilors compared to the five that add Xuntos (three) and PSOE (two).

Before the inauguration of June it was not possible to reach an agreement that has now been forged with a distribution of the baton of command for three years for the Xuntos candidate, Susana Iglesias, and the remainder for the socialist spokesperson, Iago Fariñas.

In the statement of reasons for carrying out the motion of censure, the two formations include four points, placing in the first term that there was no majority support for Manuel Cerdeira to be mayor of O Irixo “as was the case in recent years with his predecessor”. .

Secondly, it is emphasized that the mayor was “in a minority situation” that “will not allow him to govern for the benefit of the neighbors”; stressing the “impossibility” of constituting a Local Government Board in the last plenary session of organization of the City Council.

They also point out that the current situation “is the result of the disastrous management of the current mayor and his government group”, whom they accuse of having “abandoned” attention to the residents of Irixo and their needs.

Thus, they conclude that the residents “do not deserve” a councilor and a municipal government that “inherited the opportunity to work” and, instead, “preferred to walk and travel to Madrid and other places”, “to fairs and markets” instead of “visiting and fixing” the towns of O Irixo, for which reason they consider it necessary to “change the situation” and they assure that they will work to offer “other possibilities and attention”.

This is the first motion of censure that is produced in Galicia after the last municipal elections of May 28, when two months have not yet passed since the inauguration of the councilors after the elections.

It will reach the municipal plenary session in the next ten days. When the motion is debated, the PP will lose the government of the Ourense town, which it had led since in 1995 when the previous mayor, Manuel Penedo, went from Centristas de Galicia to the ranks of the PP, with whom he maintained an absolute majority until his death in 2019, when Manuel Cerdeira became mayor for the first time.

Thus, Susana María Iglesias, from Xuntos polo Irixo, will hold the position of mayor from this month of August until May 20, 2026, when the socialist deputy mayor, Iago Fariñas, will take office; who will also be spokesperson for the municipal government.

In addition, the local government board will now consist of four members: Susana María Iglesias and Tamara Civeira (Xuntos polo Irixo) and Iago Fariñas Valiña and Rosa María Dalama Lousado, for the PSdeG-PSOE.

Regarding the distribution of dedications, according to their government agreement, the current councilor had approved a net salary of 1,750 euros, an amount that will be distributed among the councilors of Xuntos Polo Irixo to attend to the delegated powers, which will be the Employment Area , Personnel, Internal Regime, Treasury and Commerce for the mayoress; Susana María Iglesias, the area of ??Culture, Sports, Youth, Tourism and Education for Juan Manuel Villanueva and Social Services, Health and Equality for Tamara Civeira.

They also argue that the current deputy mayor, also from the PP, had approved a net salary of 1,250 euros that will be distributed among the councilors of the PSOE: Iago Fariñas, who will occupy the Urban Planning, Infrastructure, Heritage, Industry and Mobility and Rosa Dalama; in charge of Rural Environment, Environment, Cleaning and Public Lighting.

The current municipal councilor, Manuel Cerdeira, maintains that the opposition motion of no confidence was expected, but regrets that “not now” because “they did not even give the 100 days of courtesy of democracy”, for which he questions “what is that they censure when, by giving less than fifty days, for better or for worse we were unable to do anything”. A situation that he, he considers, “demonstrates that what interested them was their own interest and not that of the neighbors.”

“What they are doing is an agreement on charges and posts,” insists Cerdeira, who also stresses that in the elections the PP “was left with very few votes short of an absolute majority” and the other two parties “were the losers, no matter how much they They want to hide the truth.

In addition, he has indicated that “they were not able to decide who was going to be mayor and who was deputy, nor what councilors each one was going to have.” “Now they have reached that, a distribution of posts and charges, but they have a long period left to see how day-to-day agreements are reached”, where he assures that the PP “will seek the well-being of the neighbors from the opposition”, has apostilled

At the opposite pole, the future mayoress, Susana Iglesias, stresses that Xuntos polo Irixo “is debuting in politics” with the aim of “changing the current government management for total discontent.”

The keys to his bipartite government with the PSOE will be “transparency, collaboration, legality and another way of serving the people, letting them participate as they should.” Regarding the program, both formations agree that “the most important thing” are the most basic services.

Iglesias regrets that there are towns that “have sanitation problems and problems with the water supply”, for which the two issues together with the “cleanliness of roads and light points” are among the priorities of his roadmap .

“We are going to focus on the very basic things and then, as it is done, we will move on to other points”, asserts Susana Iglesias, who adds that, for her, home assistance “will be essential”, because “there are many older people who resides in the town hall and it is important to take care of her as much as possible”.

“We want to do many things, I hope more people come to live here, I hope more children are born and I hope we leave a better town hall, in short, we want to restore the illusion to Irixo”, he has settled.
