Héctor Gómez and José Miñones have promised their new position before Felipe VI. The ceremony, held in the audience room of the Palacio de la Zarzuela, has followed the usual protocol. After the Official State Gazette ratified this morning the appointment of Héctor Gómez as Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism and of José Miñones in the Health portfolio, the two politicians have gone to the Palacio de la Zarzuela to comply with the procedure before the Head of State, Felipe VI, and with the representation of the three powers. There was the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the Minister of Justice, Pilar Llop, as the Kingdom’s main notary. Also the presidents of the Senate, Ander Gil, and of the Congress of Deputies, Meritxell Batet. On behalf of the Judiciary, Cándido Conde-Pumpido, president of the Constitutional Court, and Rafael Mozo, of the CGPJ, were present.
Although traditionally a Bible and a crucifix were placed on the swearing-in table, since Sánchez came to power, the swearing in is taken before a copy of the Constitution, opened by article 100, where they have placed their right hand while reading the oath, placed to your left.
The two ministers have chosen the formula of the promise to take office once the head of Protocol of the Royal House has read the decree of appointment. Héctor Gómez has made the promise first and then José Miñones. After the ceremony, they had a brief conversation with Don Felipe.
After the ceremony, a group photo was taken and the King congratulated the new ministers. It was at that moment that Miñones made a comment about his tie and the King told him, as an anecdote: “Here they analyze everything.” After that moment, Pedro Sánchez has told the King that he saw the image of Cádiz playing the cajón and Batet has commented that he received many videos.
After the brief huddle, each minister has gone to the headquarters of his ministry to meet with his predecessor and carry out the exchange of portfolios, in which they have been accompanied by other members of the Government. This very morning, Miñones and Gómez will participate in their first Council of Ministers.
