Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) – After the departure of the Premium fashion fair, Frankfurt is opting for a fashion week this year. During the fashion week from June 20th to 26th, more than 100 events are planned throughout Frankfurt, said the Frankfurt economic department head Stephanie Wüst (FDP) on Tuesday. Among other things, the regional fashion and design scene is to be promoted.

This includes fashion shows by young and already established designers from the Rhine-Main area, also at unusual locations such as the Carmelite monastery or the stock exchange. According to his own statements, the Frankfurt designer Samuel Gärtner will present “a colorful and colorful collection” at sunset on the Eiserner Steg pedestrian bridge. The new collection of the Mainz fashion designer Anja Gockel is presented on a hotel terrace by dancers and acrobats, as she reported.

The city of Frankfurt supports the event with 750,000 euros. She did not provide any information on her specific economic expectations, nor did she mention the number of visitors she was hoping for. In addition, it is not yet clear whether the “Frankfurt Fashion Week” will be held once or regularly.

The focus should be on the topic of “sustainability”. The “Fair Fashion Days” are also held at the same time, which do not deal with chic styles, but with everyday work in the textile industry. A film will be shown that tells the story of a young Bengali woman in a sewing factory, and an artist will present the subject of child labor. There will also be a clothing swap party.

The fashion fair Premium announced earlier this year that it was returning from Frankfurt to Berlin. It only moved to the Main metropolis in 2020, but due to the corona it was never held there as planned. Instead of large trade fairs and many glamorous runways, there were only digital offers, exhibitions and isolated shows.
