Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) – According to the Barmer health insurance company, patients in Hesse can usually reach clinics where their illness can be best treated without long travel times. However, the nearest clinic is not the first choice for every treatment, the health insurance company in Frankfurt announced on Tuesday. This statement is part of the current Barmer hospital report.
If interventions are only rarely carried out in a clinic, the statistical risk of complications and poor results increases, it is said. In addition, clinics could not offer cutting-edge medicine for every disease. It is therefore advisable to drive a few kilometers further.
For the report, 5.6 percent of hip and knee surgeries and 4.3 percent of heart attack treatments from 2019 were examined and the travel times to a suitable clinic were determined.
