Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) – Deputy CDU parliamentary group leader Astrid Wallmann is to become the new Hessian state parliament president. The government factions of the CDU and Greens want to present this personnel proposal on Tuesday in Wiesbaden, as “hessenschau.de” reported on Monday evening. A spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group did not want to comment on the personnel and referred to the appointment on Tuesday.

Wallmann would be the first woman to head Parliament. The post has to be filled because the incumbent President of the Landtag, Boris Rhein (CDU), is to be elected the new Prime Minister next Tuesday in Parliament in Wiesbaden. If elected, he would resign from the presidency.

At the meeting, a vote will also be taken on his successor. The 50-year-old Rhein has been President of the state parliament since the beginning of 2019.
