Neu-Isenburg/Offenbach (dpa/lhe) – Because a warhead was found, the police station and the neighboring town hall in Neu-Isenburg in the Offenbach district have been evacuated. A nine-year-old boy discovered the detonator on a school trip in the woods – and took it with him. As a spokesman for the police in Offenbach said on Wednesday, the student showed the metal capsule to his mother at home, who took it to the police.
Since it was initially unclear whether the detonator belonging to an incendiary bomb from World War II could still explode, the officials immediately evacuated the building. However, experts from the explosive ordnance clearance service gave the all-clear: the warhead no longer posed any danger. “After an hour, the spook was over,” said the police spokesman. Several media had reported on the find on Tuesday.
