Frankfurt (dpa/lhe) – The actor, director, artistic director and theater director Claus Helmer says goodbye to the Fritz-Rémond-Theater in Frankfurt for health reasons. This was announced by culture department head Ina Hartwig on Monday. As director of the boulevard theater “Die Komödie”, Helmer will remain with the audience. “I respect the decision and thank Prof. Helmer from the bottom of my heart on behalf of the city. He wrote Frankfurt theater history,” says Hartwig.

At the same time, she emphasized that the stage would remain part of theater life: “The city’s plans for a children’s and youth theater are in full swing be developed, that much can be revealed.”

According to Hartwig, Helmer was always a theater man through and through. “The fact that he has been in charge of the Fritz-Rémond-Theater since 1995, a house that was on the verge of collapse and which he led to great artistic success, shows his special talents.” In 2017, Helmer was honored with the Goethe Plaque from the City of Frankfurt, which is one of the most prestigious awards in the city.
