Darmstadt (dpa/lhe) – The second division soccer team SV Darmstadt 98 will inaugurate the completely renovated stadium at the Böllenfalltor with a friendly game against the Young Boys Bern. The team from Switzerland will come to the Merck Stadium on December 17 (6:00 p.m.) for the opening game, the club announced on Thursday. At the same time, the “lilies” want to celebrate 15 years of fan friendship with the current leaders of the Swiss Super League on this day.
“We are happy that we can use all spectator seats on the four stands again for the first time for this special game during the extremely long winter break, together with our supporters,” said Darmstadt President Rüdiger Fritsch in the club’s announcement. However, the interior with the team wing and VIP area is not yet in operation. This conversion work should continue throughout the winter break.
During the second division game against Düsseldorf last weekend, some fans were able to take a seat in the new main stand for the first time. The stadium at Böllenfalltor had been repeatedly built over the past few years in order to meet the requirements of the German Football League (DFL). In addition to the construction of a functional building on the stadium grounds, the standing room grandstand on the back straight was demolished and converted, and finally the new main grandstand was built.
